Ajax coach Erik ten Hag could bring in a former Manchester United player as an assistant should he land the job.
The Times says in the event that he is handed the reins by the Red Devils, it is said that he may turn to individuals with prior experience of playing for the club.
Robin van Persie, Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nistelrooy are mentioned as the coaches who have a 'bond' with United and could return.
Intriguingly, Van Persie - who played in the famous red jersey between 2012 and 2015 - is represented by the same agent as Ten Hag.
Former defender Stam, meanwhile, is out of work but may have reservations about returning to coaching, the same report goes on to add.
Ten Hag, 52, is keen to bring in his own backroom staff, with his Ajax assistant Mitchell van der Gaag set to follow him to the North West if he takes the role.
