Everton are to appeal against Allan's controversial red card received during the 1-0 win over Newcastle.

The Brazilian midfielder was shown a yellow card by referee Craig Pawson after tripping Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

But after being instructed by video assistant referee Stuart Attwell to review the incident on a monitor, Pawson upgraded the card to red

It is understood that Everton will appeal on the grounds of wrongful dismissal and have until 17:00 GMT on Friday to lodge their complaint, reports BBC Sport.

If it is unsuccessful, the club may consider a second appeal for excessive punishment.
