Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is delighted to have Allan Saint-Maximin back for their clash with Brighton.

Newcastle are unbeaten in seven Premier League matches, a run stretching back to late December.

Since then the club spent more than £80m on new players in the January window to help their survival bid.

Howe says those new faces, plus an up-turn in form from existing players, have provided much-needed competition, which in turn has contributed to better results.

"When I first came in to the job we wanted competition for places in all positions. I wouldn't say we're absolutely there yet but I think there's a healthy competition in the squad," said Howe.

"I think players are elevating their levels and there's a fight to get in the team. Then when you're in it you have to fight to stay in it.

"Maxi coming back will give everyone a lift and hopefully he gets through today then we'll make the decision."
