‘Cholo’ Simeone’s side have found the perfect balance in recent weeks, picking up five consecutive wins to move into fourth place in the table.

Atlético de Madrid have put together an unusual season, to say the least. Diego Simeone’s side have conceded far more goals than we’ve become accustomed to seeing in recent seasons, dropping points along the way, but in recent months they’ve finally found their mojo. Since the turn of the new year, Los Colchoneros have won eight of their 11 matches.

They’ve been beaten just twice in 2022; to a resurgent and in-form FC Barcelona side under coach Xavi Hernandez, and Levante UD. In fact, they haven’t lost since that surprising 1-0 loss to Levante on February 16th.

In fact, since then the Rojiblancos have reeled off five consecutive wins in LaLiga Sanander and are unbeaten in all competitions too. March was a stunning month for Atleti, winning every game they played. They’ve overcome CA Osasuna, RC Celta, Real Betis, Cadiz CF and Rayo Vallecano along the way.

Central to this improved record is the brilliant form of Joao Felix. The 22-year-old Portuguese star looks to be finally stepping up and fulfilling the potential that prompted Atleti to fork out €126 million to sign him from Benfica back in 2019. O Menino de Ouro has started each of the last five matches, scoring four goals and his first brace in LaLiga Santander, against Real Betis.

With Atleti preparing for a tough month ahead, with a competitive season run-in and a Champions League tie against Manchester City on the cards, Simeone will need Felix firing on all cylinders.
