Kota Kinabalu: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Sandakan town is not eligible to be upgraded into a city yet as it is subject to the Federal Government’s agreement.

As such, Masidi said he will table a law amendment at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting Thursday in efforts to decentralise powers that determine whether a town is eligible to be upgraded into a city.

“We have not reached that stage yet, at this point in time, the engagement is more towards ensuring that the Sandakan Municipal Council has complied with all the requirements to be upgraded to a city,”

Masidi was speaking during a question-and-answer session at an Assembly sitting, here, Tuesday.
