Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s junior weightlifters won one gold, three silver and three bronze medals in the junior events at the National Weightlifting Championship held in Melaka last week.

Irene Henry captured the only gold in the women’s 45kg, while Kevdylan Wong (men’s 67kg), Micklly Adim Silver (men’s 61kg) and Anastasia Roger (women’s 81kg) delivered the silver medals and the bronzes came from Sherolyne Jounis (women’s 59kg), Henry Gampion (men’s 73kg) and Wellma John (women’s 64kg).

Sabah Weightlifting Association president Philip Gisan said it was a good outing for the contingent under the circumstances.

“We only sent 11 of our young athletes for the championship and we are happy with the results even though our training was restricted due to the Covid-19 situation.

“We will continue our training programme for the juniors and hopefully they will produce more medals, especially gold in the coming championship,” he said on Monday.
