Kota Kinabalu: The widow of former Chief Minister and Governor Tun Mohd Fuad Stephens, Toh Puan Rahimah Stephens, has passed away at age 91.

Daily Express learnt that she was warded after a fall during the weekend but succumbed to a heart attack while awaiting treatment at a private hospital early Monday. According to her daughter Faridah, her mum was in high spirits despite the fall and fracturing a bone.

She said a surgeon was due to arrive today to advise on further treatment.

"Unfortunately, she had a heart attack in the early hours," she said.

Rahimah was the solid rock behind Stephens throughout his political career.

In her final interview to the Daily Express on the Double Six tragedy on June 6, 1976, which claimed the lives of Stephens and 10 others in a Nomad air cash in Kota Kinabalu, she spoke of the pain of not knowing what actually happened to the plane and would support any fresh attempt to find out the truth even though it happened 45 years ago.

Until today both the full findings of both the Malaysian and Australian investigations into the incident where half of Stephens newly elected Berjaya leaders were killed, have not been made public.

Just last week, Stephens successor Tan Sri Harris Mohd Salleh told Daily Express he has written to both the Malaysian and Australian governments to release the findings or face further action.

He said because of the non-disclosure, some sections of the public believe erroneously that he may have something to do with the tragedy.
