Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob spoke on reopening Malaysia’s borders safely and transitioning into the endemic stage at his press conference today. Here are the key points:
Endemic stage transition begins 1 April, 2022
- Masks must be worn in public
- MySejahtera still in use, except for open spaces without crowds
- MySJTrace (bluetooth contact-tracing function) is made a requirement at crowded spaces
Malaysia’s borders reopen 1 April, 2022
- Malaysians may travel to other countries with open borders
- Those abroad (Malaysians and foreigners) with relevant travel documents can travel into the country without applying for the MyTravelPass permit
- No quarantine is needed for fully-vaccinated travelers into Malaysia. They will have to undergo a RT-PCR swab test 2 days before departure and RTK test 24 hours upon arrival at the KLIA airport
- As for traveling to countries with closed borders, Malaysians may travel using VTL if it is available
Miscellaneous
- No curfew for business operation hours
- F&B may operate for 24 hours
- Malaysians may travel domestically regardless of vaccination status

On April 1, Malaysia moves into ‘transitioning to endemicity’.
– International borders open. No quarantine for fully vax. PCR before arrival, RTK after arrival.
– Restaurants can open according to license so 24hrs mamak back in play.
