Try these things to beat the jobless blues

It’s not fun not having a job or without an income. Every day you will wake up feeling depressed and without a sense of direction. You may quite likely worry about your future in many aspects:

  • Whether you have enough retirement funds
  • Whether you will have career development and advancement
  • Whether you can go anywhere else in life

The possibilities of how your life pans out are many. You will never know what is going to happen to yourself next.

However, if you do not have a job now, fret not. Don’t take it too hard on yourself (easier said than done). There are other ways to fill in your time and to get jobs.

Here are some things you can do to combat jobless blues.

1. Find several new hobbies

Fill in your time with new hobbies to keep your mind off unemployment blues. There are so many hobbies in the world. There is bound to be one where it requires a lot of your time and attention.

Worst case scenario – pick up an old man’s hobby like fishing and go with it. All you need to do is to throw your line into the water and wait for it to hook.

2. Do part-time jobs

If you are able to find part-time jobs and gigs, go with it first. It may not be the best paying job for now but it does pay you some rabbit food money. Anything to help pay for your small money bills (like phone bills, for example).

This may be easier said than done. However, if you look around enough it should not be an issue. You should be able to find one sooner or later. Look into job portals and explore all options. Sometimes part-time opportunities may lead to full-time opportunities. Who knows?

3. Find friends

It’s easy to isolate yourself when you don’t have a job, and that’s understandable. No one wants to hang out with people who constantly ask you about your job search. It does get pretty annoying and affects your overall morale.

However, if you have resourceful friends who are helpful, you can ask them for help. Some friends are very helpful. They automatically help put forward suggestions and may recommend you.

The rest is pretty much up to you whether you want to take the job up or not. Sometimes the job suggested may not be what you want or is out of your expectations. That’s okay actually because think about it: you don’t have a lot of job experience. It’s a good thing to take the job and commit to it. Who knows where it may lead you to?

4. Learn new skills

Since you do not have a job, learn new skills to improve yourself. Find the kinds where you can get certified – and make sure the certification is recognized! If you are laid off from your previous job, also take up a new job.

It’s always ok to reinvent yourself and come back better. The initial salaries may not be the best but it’s still money, right? As long as you have money to pay for a place to stay and food to eat, you’re better than most.

5. Be aggressive and dedicated to what you do

Let’s be real with ourselves. A lot of people, employers and non-employers, do not like people who do things in a half-assed manner. The end results are often subpar and not within acceptable outcomes.

If someone gives you half-assed work, pretty sure you do not like it too. Do your work so good that no one is able to find faults with you and your work. However, do not retaliate when people do not agree or do not like your work. Opinions are subjective and you don’t have to agree with what they say.

Just make sure in the time that you are unemployed, do not lose yourself into being an improper individual. Keep a schedule and follow through with it.

Key takeaway

The bottom line is that the jobless life does not have to be a lifeless one. Try to make your jobless life a meaningful one rather than one that brings you a lot of sorrow.
