Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s daily Covid-19 caseload fell back below the 400 mark on Friday with 372 cases, a decrease by 64 compared to Thursday’s 436 cases.

Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Kota Kinabalu again recorded double-digit cases of 96 compared to Thursday’s three-digit figure of 123.

“No other districts in Sabah recorded three-digit cases on Friday,” he said in a statement.

Several districts close to Kota Kinabalu such as Papar, Putatan and Tuaran recorded lower figures, but Penampang recorded an increase of six cases compared to Thursday’s 47.

The number of new cases due to sporadic infections dropped slightly from 66.06 per cent on Thursday to 58.33 per cent on Friday, but it is still considered high, according to Masidi.

“The sporadic infection rate in Kota Kinabalu was at 55.2pc, Penampang 64.2pc, Putatan 61.9pc and Tuaran 52.2pc. This means the risk of sporadic infection is still high,” he said.

He advised the public to always adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) when in public, especially in crowded places.

Although the number of new infections decreased on Friday, the districts that recorded double-digit cases increased to 11 from 10 districts on Thursday.

This does not include Kota Kinabalu which recorded two-digit cases on Friday. A total of 13 districts (15 districts on Thursday) recorded single-digit cases, while Semporna and Kalabakan did not record any new cases.

Masidi said the volatility of daily cases is quite difficult to predict and is greatly influenced by the attitude and public compliance with all SOPs in force.

Meanwhile, two clusters ended on Friday, namely the Tembok Cluster in Kota Kinabalu and the Jalan Bandau Cluster in Kota Marudu. The number of clusters that are still active in Sabah is seven.

A total of 364 or 97.85 per cent of 372 new patients today are in Categories 1 and 2, three in Category 3, four in Category 4 and one in Category 5.
