Bruno Guimaraes is excited being at the ground floor of Newcastle United's new era.

The former Lyon midfielder has lifted the lid on how he was convinced to make the move in January.

He told Globo: "It was a risk, but I also believe in the project. The fans are passionate about the team, it's too different.

"We reinforced each other well. Next season I believe it will strengthen very well to seek, who knows, a spot in the Champions League, in the Europa League. From now on, it's a team to compete for to be champions of the Premier League. I believe a lot in the project and I hope that everything works out as it was passed on to me."

Bruno is aiming to be a legend at Newcastle and cited the roles of some of the stars at Manchester City after the North-West club's takeover.

He said: "Taking the example of Manchester City, Agüero, Yaya Touré and David Silva were all names consecrated in the history of the club because they believed in the project from the beginning. Here I came in with Kieran Trippier, who left Atletico Madrid as champions to be here.

"The fans are passionate about me, which is something I didn't even have at Atlético Paranaense where I was an idol and won one of the main titles in the club's history."
