
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed woman was sentenced to eight months’ jail on Monday for having stolen watches.
Norhamisah Masadi pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to keeping 17 stolen watches belonging to the Kioks TG Trading Gnc kiosk in City Mall at 3.11pm on Feb 11 at City Mall here.
The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine, or both, on conviction.
The court heard that the watches were stolen from the unlocked display cabinet at the said shopping mall earlier the same day.
Norhamisah requested leniency by saying that she was a single mother of three children.
The court ordered her to serve the sentence from the date of her arrest.
In another case, a 28-year-old man was fined RM100 or one day’s jail for fraudulently having RM3,700 in his bank account two years ago.
Muhd Saffri Mahhadin admitted to having the money belonging to one Rizani between July 27, 2020 and July 28 of the same year at a furniture shop in Kepayan here.
The charge stated that Saffri failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained the money.
Saffri had committed an offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months’ jail, or both, on conviction.
Saffri requested a lenient sentence by saying that he came from Kuala Lumpur for the case and currently has no permanent job.
