
SHAH ALAM - The police have solved a rape case involving a 15-year old girl that happened more than a decade ago via DNA evidence.
Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said scientific investigations using deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) had successfully identified the suspect of this case.
He said an operation was immediately launched to track down the suspect who was successfully arrested yesterday (April 7) around 3.30pm in Balik Pulau, Penang.
The 40-year old suspect was arrested at a goat farm and has been detained to assist in investigations.
Abd Jalil said the rape of a 15-year old girl took place 12 years ago at a workshop at Sungai Pinang in Balik Pulau, Penang.
He added that the suspect has been remanded at the Barat Daya district police headquarters for six days starting today until April 13.
The case is being investigated under Section 367 of the Penal Code.
“The police never gave up on their efforts to gather information on the development of this case.
“Now they have managed to identify the suspects involved and bring them to face justice,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the investigators were now completing the investigation papers and will be referred to the prosecutor’s office for the charge sheet.
