Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard insists they didn't deserve the scoreline of defeat at home to Tottenham.

Spurs won 0-4 with Heung-min Son scoring a hat-trick.

Gerrard said, "It is reality, we've been beaten 4-0 and that is tough to take; it hurts. But the story of the game is a head-scratcher for sure; the scoreline is harsh. If you look at our first half performance, I couldn't ask for more except us taking our chances.

"We were very dominant; the goal we've conceded is poor. Outside of that, I thought it was the best we've played under us, and if we'd been winning two or three one, nobody would have had any complaints.

"We were aggressive, we counter-pressed, we created chances, we were the better footballing team. The challenge was maintaining that; we've been speaking about that 90-minute performance.

"Second half, they've made it about our back line and punished us with pure quality Tottenham were ruthless, but I'm really disappointed in the second, third and fourth goals. They could have been dealt well with good defensive play."
