Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup is confident that more members from the opposition, particularly from Upko, will be joining their side.
He said a number of opposition members have asked PBRS to visit their respective areas to establish divisions.
“More members will be joining PBRS. Particularly from Upko (first). We are confident more will be joining.
“There are a lot of (opposition) members waiting for us to visit their areas to lauch PBRS’s (very own) division to replace Upko,” he said, after receiving the membership of former Upko Supreme Council Member Chong Kwee Min, who led led 259 members to join PBRS.
He said the membership from former Parti Warisan Sabah members in Tawau have also been encouraging.
“Just as in Tawau, I did not expect that they asked for me (the party President) to personally fly there.
“(After going there) we have established at least five divisions that were formerly with Warisan.
“If this goes on, there will (surely) be no dispute among party members and the chances of winning will be bright,” he added.
With the 15th General Election expected this year, Kurup urged party members to maintain unity as this would be the “recipe” for victory.
He said that PBRS is expected to receive more seats to contest which would require not only unity but also cooperation and hard work from all members.
“This means not only unity that is focused on the Kadazandusun Murut community but all races in Sabah.
“Because we have various parties in Sabah, we are divided. Whatever we do when facing something, we must stay united to reach our goals.
“The members who have joined us today is a reflection of our goals as they understand the party’s principle,” he added.
On a different note, Kurup expressed full support for the Anti-Party Hopping Bill which would be tabled in Parliament this coming July.
He said this was to ensure that the people were not “betrayed” by the elected representative after winning a particular seat.
