TAWAU: Police arrested nine local men in their 20s to 40s following a brawl and robbery outside a café in Kubota Square, here, on Sunday.
A 1.52-second video clip of the 12.58am incident was widely circulated on social media.
This is the second such incident at Kubota Square, with the first on January 28, which also involved nine suspects.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin (pic) said they were looking for another suspect who is still at large, adding two people were injured in the incident and received treatment at Tawau Hospital.
According to him, all the suspects have been remanded for two to four days for further investigations under Sections 147 and 394 of the Penal Code.
“If convicted, the sections provide two years’ jail or fine, or both, and 20 years’ jail or fine, or both, respectively,” he said.
He said the incident was believed due to dissatisfaction because the complainant, in his 20s, stared at one of the suspects while inside the premises,” he said.
According to Jasmin, the complainant discovered his gold chain was missing in the incident and believed it had been pulled by one of the suspects.
He urged the public not to disseminate false information on the incident.
“Any information should be directed to senior criminal investigating officer ASP Maliki Majuni at 0178989171, or the case investigating officer, Inspector Mulkiaman Zizuhrahman, at 0198997727, or the nearest police station or police headquarters,” he said.
