Villarreal chief Fernando Roig Jr admits Liverpool deserved victory on Wednesday night.
The Reds took charge of their Champions League semifinal by taking a 2-0 first-leg lead at Anfield.
Roig Jr later said, "We were up against a great team, they were much better than us.
"Until the first goal we controlled the game quite well, looking for our opportunities. We had two or three counters which could have caused damage.
"Congratulations to Liverpool but we can hope that the result, while comfortable for them, is not definitive."
