KOTA KINABALU: The number of new Covid-19 infections in Sabah is yo-yoing down to below the 200 mark today with 167 cases, according to the State’s daily update.
“Overall, there are signs of stabilisation in most districts with daily case moves on a lower and controlled rate,” said the update.
“With the exception of some ‘volatile’ districts such as Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Tuaran which are hard to predict, the daily case fluctuations in many other districts are now relatively easy to predict as they are already on a level that is considered stable.”
Kota Kinabalu topped today’s list with 26 new cases, followed by Papar (21), Penampang (17) and Tuaran (14).
“Kota Kinabalu is among the districts that are difficult to predict its daily case movement.
“Daily cases can change dramatically. Perhaps this is due to Kota Kinabalu being a thriving city with a huge population as well as a major centre of economic activity in Sabah.
“It is observed that districts that are far from large city centres with small populations are the ones that consistently record a much lower number of daily cases every day, sometimes even without recording any new cases,” said the update.
The percentage of sporadic infections dropped below the 50 per cent rate today with 43.71 per cent.
“A lower percentage means the risk of infection will also decrease and the number of new infections will decrease.”
Some 158 cases today were in Categories 1 and 2, while a case was in Category 3, and four cases each in Category 4 and Category 5.
