The Magpies went ahead in north London when Fabian Schar's free kick beat Hugo Lloris.

Spurs back on level terms shortly after thanks to a terrific glancing header from Ben Davies.

The half-time break seemed to rejuvenate Spurs as they came out all guns blazing in the second stanza.

Matt Doherty headed his team into lead after connecting on a teasing cross from Harry Kane.

Son Heung-min got in on the act with a clinical finish to make it 3-1 with 54 minutes played.

Emerson Royal continued to the onslaught with a close range finish after some terrific build-up play for Doherty.

Substitute Steven Bergwijn made it five with a neat finish on the 83rd minute mark.

Speaking after the game, Spurs boss Antonio Conte was delighted with the performance.

"I'm very happy," he said. "I was happy before the international break. I said it was a pity we had to stop. I asked my players today to start in the same way we left. It was a good performance. Newcastle are a good team.

"They've changed totally now. Tactically they are very good. It wasn't easy, we made the game easy.

"I thank my players, from the first day they have shown commitment and desire to improve."
