Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admits he wants to retain the Magpies' spirit as the club pushes forward.

The Magpies are currently negotiating with soon to be out of contract players such as Paul Dummett, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar while others are eyeing contract extensions to existing deals with a clutch of players signed up until 2023. Howe feels he currently has a group of players who want to remain together.

Howe told Chronicle Live: "I would never stand in any player's way if they felt their future was elsewhere. I don't think it's helpful, for you, them or the club.

"You need players that are absolutely committed to playing for the club. Now, in saying that it has to be on the right terms for the club depending on the individual player position. But I don't see that from the group."

Howe stated at his Press conference on Friday that he was keen to maintain some of the "spirit and togetherness" of a group that still contains players that won promotion half a decade ago.

He said: "I see players that want to be here and are desperately trying to stay with the group. Which is great for me to see."
