Kota Kinabalu: New Covid-19 infections in Sabah are declining due to a high vaccination rate among the public, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

Sabah’s cases dipped to 176 on Thursday from 188 the day earlier.

“Although sporadic infections are high at 67 per cent of the caseload, the number of new infections are under control due to the effectiveness of the vaccine,” he said in a statement, Thursday.

He added that the downward trend is also attributed to the community’s excellent compliance of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

One death was recorded in Sandakan while no new clusters were identified.

Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 40 cases, followed by Penampang (27), Papar (17), Putatan (12), Tuaran (10) and Tenom (7).

“Five districts recorded double-digit cases while 20 districts recorded between one to seven cases. Kunak and Kalabakan did not record any new cases,” Masidi added.

He said the majority of cases are mild, with 172 out of 176 being category one and two infections, while four are in category three.

There are no category four and five infections.
