Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) will increase express bus fares by 10 per cent from April 29 to May 8 in view of the coming Aidilfitri festive season.

Its Chairman Datuk Chin Kim Hiung said 14.3sen (RM0.143) would be imposed for each kilometre travelled, compared to 13 sen previously.

A 555km journey from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau, for example, would incur a maximum fare of RM79.40 with the 10 per cent increase, compared to RM72.2 without.

He said the Board will also open up applications for the Temporary Operator Licence (LPS) for eligible express bus operators in order to provide more buses during the festive season.

“CVLB acknowledges the need for additional buses to meet consumer demand during the Aidilfitri celebrations, which is expected to increase due to the relaxation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) by the Government.

“Applications for LPS will be open from April 11 to 22. The form can be obtained at the Sabah CVLB Headquarters as well as CVLB branches in Tawau and Sandakan,” he said in a statement, Friday.

He added that an approved LPS would be valid from April 29 to May 8.

“I believe this decision will garner various feedback from affected parties.

“However I believe this is a win-win decision to ensure the welfare of all parties is maintained in line with the Malaysian Family concept,” he said.
