Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was happy to have chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan visit the dressing room after victory over Crystal Palace.

His last visit to St James' Park had ended in an FA Cup defeat to Cambridge United.

But this time he was able to enjoy the full experience of victory and afterwards Howe said: "That's why I think it's important to actually sometimes look back at those days and think that wasn't that long ago. That Cambridge game was a big disappointment because we were desperate to get a win, any kind of win just to try to build some momentum.

"I have to say, the chairman came in to see me after that game and he was excellent, he really was very, very good and I know he was very good with the players. It's so important in difficult moments that you keep your head and you support each other, and that's a big thank you, really, for supporting us that day that we've been hopefully able to repay that support."

When asked if talks on transfers were planned with the Toon chairman, Howe said: "That will be for another day. I was so pleased that he was here today to see the team and to share in the experience of what the relationship is like with the supporters and the scenes after the game, so great for him.

"Hopefully we're building a solid relationship where we can take the club forward, and I'm looking forward to what lies ahead for us."
