SANDAKAN: Heavy rain and strong winds that hit the district Saturday afternoon caused many Ramadan bazaar traders to suffer losses.
Dozens of stalls at several Ramadan bazaar sites were badly damaged with umbrellas blown away around 4.30pm, while their items for sale were strewn all over the road.
The strong winds also damaged the zinc roofs of some houses.
Meanwhile, the affected traders in the Gum-Gum area would receive a donation of RM500 cash vouchers from Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad.
Its Managing Director Ameer Ali Mydin expressed sympathy hoped the assistance would alleviate some of their burden after experiencing losses and damage to their business items in the incident.
He said the money could be used to replace the damaged items and restart their business, adding he has requested the Mydin Sandakan branch Head to identify the traders involved to distribute the assistance.
