Zii Jia amongst 25 shuttlers called up for BAM’s centralised training camp

KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has called up 25 players for the centralised training camp in preparation for the upcoming Thomas Cup and Uber Cup championships in Bangkok from May 8-15.

In a statement today, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) said a total of 24 shuttlers – 12 men and 12 women – will depart on May 5 for the tournament.

BAM will need to submit the definitive squad list to world badminton governing body Badminton World Federation by April 22.

Currently, there are 13 names called up for the Thomas Cup and 12 names for the Uber Cup tournaments. 

The players called up for the centralised training camp include world number seven Lee Zii Jia, Ng Tze Yong, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin, Leong Jun Hao, Ong Ken Yon, Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei, Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Ong Yew Sin, Teo Ee Yi, Liew Daren and Shaqeem Eiman. 

For the Uber Cup centralised training camp, the names called up are S. Kisona, Eoon Qi Xuan, Myisha Khairul, Tan Zhing Yi, Goh Jin Wei, Chan Wen Tse, Pearly Tan, M. Thinaah, Anna Cheong, Teoh Mei Xing, Low Yeen Yuan and Valeree Siow. 

Malaysia is drawn in Group D of the Thomas Cup with 2014 champions Japan along with England and New Zealand. 

In the Uber Cup, Malaysia is in Group C alongside 2018 runners-up Thailand together with Denmark and Egypt. – The Vibes, April 13, 2022
