Tottenham defender Matt Doherty is out for the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury in their 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 30-year-old has become a key player to Spurs in recent weeks after filling in on both flanks, contributing two goals and two assists in five Premier League matches.

He looked set to continue his impressive run in the team but that appears to have come to an abrupt end.

Football.london is reporting that he will now miss the rest of the season after rupturing the medial collateral ligament in his knee on Saturday.

The report goes on to suggest that Doherty faces up to 12 weeks out following scans on his knee, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.
