Writer’s block is a creative flump that happens to writers of all stages; from beginners to professionals. It refers to the inability to produce new work or feeling stuck and dried out of creative juice to create new work. This can hamper writing for days, weeks or sometimes longer making it the biggest nightmare for writers. However, if you feel like you have hit the dead end, fret not! There are a few ways through which your creative slump can be reversed!

Get inspired
As cliche as it sounds, writers get inspired by other writers. Reading your favourite author or books can rekindle the inspiration or interest in writing. It reconnects writers to the writing techniques that inspire them and reminds them of the stories they intend to tell. One of the best ways to get out of a creative slump is to revisit the inspiration that became the cornerstone of one’s writing journey. Reading the book of an author who inspired you to be a writer or reading stories that became the reason for your writing journey is one of the ways to get reminded of the intention and to rekindle the passion.
Stop! Do something else
The inspiration to write does not necessarily come from reading and writing alone. At times, when writers hit what seems like the dead end, the best thing to do is to stop writing. Writer’s block can also happen due to exhaustion and just like any other job, writing too can use a break. Picking up other hobbies and doing something new will be a way to distract from the inability to create and reduce the pressure that results from it. Hence, it provides an opportunity for writers to heal from the block and get inspired again to write. When you hit the ultimate writer’s block, stop writing, do something else and hit reset!
Tweak your workspace
Writers mostly write out of their workspace so their sacred little writing space is extremely important for them to produce quality pieces. Hence why spicing up the workplace by changing its landscape of it or writing out of a new place can be a remedy! A change of environment can certainly have a psychological impact and trick the brain into not overthinking about the block but instead focusing on the new changes. The rise of a new atmosphere will give a sense of breaking free from the normalcy and feed the writers with inspiration for newer ideas.
Writing has been one of the most powerful tools to create discussion on some of the most important matters and to catapult changes in society thus writer’s block is a concern for all. Whilst some writers argue that writer’s block is a myth, others agree that it is a true phenomenon. Whether or not it is true, the fundamental to overcoming writer’s block is to distract from the creative slow down and to allow for the influx of newer perspectives both in life and writing because writers are essentially the storytellers of our lives! So the next time you face writer’s block, stop writing, do something new and get inspired again.
