
KOTA KINABALU – Three temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have been opened in Tenom to accommodate 100 people from 31 families affected by the floods following continuous heavy rain yesterday.
The state Disaster Management Committee, in a statement, said that the PPS are the Jinuim Jimin hall, which is housing 35 victims from 10 families, while 33 people from 13 families are sheltering at the Ptongan Saga hall.
Another PPS is SK Mandalom Lama which is accommodating a total of 32 people from eight families.
The Tenom district Disaster Management Committee also declared a disaster in the district at 7am today after several villages in the Melalap state constituency were inundated with floodwater.
“The evacuation process is still being carried out,” it said in a statement.
A total of 13 villages were affected by the floods in Tenom following continuous heavy rain from yesterday afternoon until midnight last night.
Tenom is a district in the interior of Sabah and is located about 150km south of Kota Kinabalu. – Bernama, May 10, 2022
