TAWAU: A foreigner is believed to have fallen from the first floor of an entertainment outlet at the BDC Commercial Centre along Jalan Chong Thien Vun on Tuesday while attempting to avoid police inspections on the premises.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 23-year-old was discovered sprawled on the road in a pool of blood and was brought to the Tawau Hospital where he was pronounced dead seven hours later at 8.38am.
He said police raided the establishment about 1.10am because it was suspected of operating outside of its permitted hours.
Inspections led to the arrest of five suspected illegal immigrants, aged 17 to 45, comprising four men and a woman.
The team also seized several sets of electronic entertainment equipment.
Further inspections were conducted outside the premises, resulting in the arrest of a man and the discovery of another sprawled in a pool of blood on the road.
Apart from the case being investigated under Section 3 of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 and Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, police are also looking into the possibility of the victim fleeing and suffering injuries that resulted in death.
He reminded the public not to speculate in order to avoid causing uncertainty and fear, which might impede investigations.
