Cops arrest 21 students, an ex-student after viral video of school fight

Sandakan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the students who were picked up were from three different schools.

SANDAKAN - A total of 21 students and a former student were arrested on Wednesday after they were suspected of being involved in a fight.

The incident was caught on video which went viral on social media.

Sandakan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the students who were picked up were from three different schools.

“All the students aged between 14 and 18 were from three separate schools in the district and all of them were suspected of being involved in the fight.

"Preliminary investigations found that the fight was caused by a misunderstanding between the students,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He added that the police will complete the investigation papers which will then be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for further instructions.

The 21-second video showed students in school uniform fighting, which was believed to have taken place in Jalan Elopura, here.

Police investigations found that the incident took place at about 2pm before the video of the fight was spread on social media.
