Kota Kinabalu: A man was scalded and another slightly injured following a kitchen fire caused by a gas leak at the Tang Dynasty Hotel near here, Saturday.
According to the Assistant Director of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, Misran Bisara, Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received an emergency call via MERS 999 at 4pm.
He said a total of seven personnel and officers, as well as a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), were dispatched to the location, led by operation commander PBK II Welson Juanis.
Welson said the hotel staff extinguished the fire caused by the cooking gas leak in the kitchen and also shut the gas valve before the Fire Department personnel arrived.
“A burn victim was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital, while another who suffered minor injuries did not want to be taken to hospital,” he said.
“The team made an inspection to make sure there were no other hazards at the location before ending the operations at 4.37pm,” he said.
