
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Sukma-bound gymnasts will be taking part in the 17th Singapore Gymnastics Open at the Bishan Sports Hall scheduled to start today (Friday).
Coach Liew Tong Ee said the trip is part of the Sukma preparation for the 12-member team with six men and six women.
“We are not setting them any targets. It is part of the training programme to prepare them for the Sukma Games in September.
“It is going to be very tough with the presence of the Malaysia national team as well as athletes from Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Indonesia and the hosts,” he said on Thursday.
He also thanked Sabah Sports Council, Sabah Sports Board, Sabah Gymnastics Association President Dr Judy Mahibol, team manager Marilyn Buseong as well as the coaches and parents for their support in making the trip possible.
Meanwhile, the six men who will be taking part in the floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar are Brandon Denoley Luise, Ammar Zafi Firdaus @ Silvester, Abd Izzat Daniel Abd Rauf, Charlie Richie Cheong, Jacob Hezron Andreas and Liew Jun Xiang while the six women to participate in the floor exercise, balance beam, uneven bars and vault are Ammanda Wong Yeah Chean, Cherfie Resie Chong, Felicity Grace Sew Pei En, Jill Avie Horatio, Jenniesia Jiniol and Nur Farisha Atiqah Shuaili.
