Newcastle defender Fabian Schar was knocked out during victory over Arsenal last night.

But he was able to walk off the field after the worrying scenes at St James' Park.

Eddie Nketiah collided with the Magpies defender seconds into the second half as they competed for the ball in the air.

Schar hit the ground heavily and stayed down motionless as the 52,000-seater stadium fell silent.

His Toon team-mates waved the medical staff on immediately as centre-back partner Emil Krafth appeared to try and prevent Schar from swallowing his tongue.

Nketiah received a booking for the challenge as VAR decided no further punishment was necessary.

Schar managed to get himself up and hobble off gingerly after lengthy treatment.

Jamaal Lascelles came on in the Swiss ace's place before a Ben White own goal and Bruno Guimaraes scored for Newcastle in the 2-0 win.
