Raping stepdaughter: Man to go on trial in October

Kota Kinabalu: A man, charged with raping his stepdaughter, will go trial on Oct 25 and 26 this year.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus set the date for the man, whose case was brought up to fix for trial date on Thursday.

The man is accused of raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter at 3am on April 23, 2021 in a house of a village in Kota Marudu.

The charge, under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of between eight and 30 years and whipping of not less than 10 strokes on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Tham Pou Jin appeared for the prosecution while the man was not represented.

Meanwhile, in another case, the court set Aug 3 this year for hearing of the case involving a 44-year-old man charged with two counts of causing hurt to a policeman and having a knife in public without permit.

Maslan Lamang will go on trial after he maintained his not guilty plea on the two charges against him.

On the first count, Maslan allegedly caused injury to Corporal Mohd Firdaus Nor Ahmad, 33, by using a pair of modified scissors at 1.25pm on Aug 24, 2020 under the stairs in Block G in Taman Puri Warisan, Inanam, here. The offence, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 10 years, with fine or with whipping, on conviction.

On the second count, Maslan is accused of having a knife in public place at the same place and time. The court Maslan to be remanded further pending the hearing date.
