Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is planning for a busy summer market.

Gerrard has said that he will be 'on the phone' over the next few weeks as he looks to continue to add to his squad over the summer.

Villa have been the most active side in the Premier League so far in the off-season, already completing three deals, despite the transfer window not officially opening until June 10. Philippe Coutinho moved permanently from Barcelona, while the club have announced deals that will see both Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos arrive in time for the pre-season.

Gerrard has been in France covering Liverpool's Champions League final against Real Madrid, the Spanish team coming out as 1-0 winners at the Stade De France on Saturday night. It was during the coverage of that game, he spoke about the transfer business so far and explained why Villa have moved so quickly to bring players in.

"We have tried to get in while people are sleeping and try to make some big pieces of the jigsaw," Gerrard told BT Sport. “We are really happy with where we are right now."

Without games coming thick and fast, the off season is a time for managers and players to have a break, but while Gerrard says he will do that, he also hinted that he will be working on some other possible deals.

"It's exciting moving forward but it is time to switch off for a few weeks," he added.

"Of course I will be on the phone doing what I need to do and I am really looking forward to a full pre-season and I am optimistic for next year."
