Everton have offered Mathew Mallon a new contract.

The fullback appeared all set to leave Goodison Park this summer as his deal expired this month.

However, the Liverpool Echo says he is now set to sign a two-year professional contract with the Blues, with the option of a third year included, too. And the hope for the immediate future is that he can now make the progression in the U23s that was previously denied.

Everton's decision arrives after Mallon had announced his departure in April and held talks with Blackburn Rovers.

The defender skippered the U18 team at Everton last season.
