PUTRAJAYA - Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened 25 investigation papers into Covid-19-related acquisitions, alleging corruption and malpractice.

MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said it covers a wide range of offences and the agency has contacted those involved to assist with the investigations.

“We are investigating several issues (procurement of medical equipment and medicine) specifically during the Covid-19 outbreak period up to now.

“We are looking into who is involved including calling former health minister (Datuk Seri Adham Baba) to help with the investigation,” he said during Program Pemantapan Wartawan with MACC here on Thursday.

On May 24, it was reported that the MACC’s ongoing investigation included corrupt activities in the procurement of medical services, abuse of power to divert aid and stimulus packages, and fraud related to medical equipment.

The probe also involves low quality face masks, gloves, among others.

Adham has so far said that he is willing to work together with an anti-graft agency, if needed.
