KOTA KINABALU – Quick response by a team of firemen saves two life – the mother who was giving birth on her own in a car, and her baby - at Jalan Lintas here today.

In the 2pm incident, four firemen from the Lintas fire station were quick to tie the baby’s umbilical cord before handing the newborn to the medical team who were at the scene.

Lintas Fire and Rescue Department chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said his team received the distress call at 1.50 pm.

A team of firemen were deployed to the scene, about 3 kilometres from the station.

“Upon arrival, they found that the woman was giving birth on her own in a Perodua Viva.

“The Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit proceeded to tie the umbilical cord and assisted to deliver the baby.

“The medical team later cut the umbilical cord before taking them to the hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement.

Agustavia said the operation ended at 2.10pm.
