Kota Kinabalu: Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning (PPIB) will continue to collaborate with other institutions following the success of The Scholars Programme with Kota Kinabalu School of Integrity (SIKK) under the Prisons Department.

PPIB Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Dean, Associate Professor Dr Lai Yew Meng said, collaboration should be continued in various forms of implementation to improve the quality of research and service to community by the university.

“It is hoped that the collaboration that has been established along with the proliferation of the knowledge that has been implemented did not stop after the program at SIKK,” he said.

Dr Lai said this at the Graduation Ceremony of The Scholars Programme 2022 at SIKK to mark the end of the pilot program implemented by a group of researchers from the university.

The six-week programme led by Dr Esther Jawing has involved the construction of Science and Mathematics Modules as learning materials for SIKK residents in undergoing effective rehabilitation.

Dr Lai stressed that a broader educational perspective should be provided to young people in prison institutions to strengthen their personalities to re-integrate with society.

“This ceremony also marks the success of SIKK residents in completing their assignments successfully in the six weeks learning program,” he said.

Also present was the Director of Prisoner Management KP Haji Ajidin Haji Salleh, Director of Kota Kinabalu Central Prison PKK Teyun Thian Ein, Deputy Dean of PPIB Assoc Prof Dr Halina Sandera Mohd Yakin and Chairman of PPIB Community Engagement and Networking (External Organisation) Dr Budi Anto Mohd Tamring.

In the implementation of the research involving the Knowledge Transfer Programme, Dr Esther was assisted by researchers from several faculties at UMS and SIKK teachers.
