Police solve 19-year-old rape case using DNA evidence

KUALA LUMPUR – Bukit Aman managed to solve a rape case that happened nearly 19 years ago, following the utilisation of DNA evidence that led to an arrest in Perak.

In a statement today, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said the police had arrested a 40-year-old man in Bagan Serai, Perak on June 9 around 9.30pm.

“The police will continue to work with every means to detect and arrest perpetrators despite facing inadequate information at the start of the investigation,”

The suspect is currently being remanded at the Kerian district police headquarters for four days, from June 10 to June 14, to help with the investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and will be referred to Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action. – The Vibes, June 11, 2022
