Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s caseload continued to climb with 65 cases recorded on Wednesday from 63 the day earlier.

Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 74 per cent of cases were sporadic infections, which needs to be taken seriously by the public.

“One thing that the public must take heed of is the extremely high rate of sporadic infections. 48 out of 65 patients were infected with the Covid-19 virus through sporadic transmissions.

“It is highly likely that transmissions occurred when attending celebrations and festivities or at congested places where compliance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as the use of face masks is now relaxed,” he said.

He said Kota Kinabalu remained as the top contributor to the caseload with 24 cases, while Sandakan’s cases increased by 12 to 15.

“Putatan and Penampang each recorded two-digit figures the day earlier, but recorded seven and four cases, respectively, the next day,” he added.

Masidi said the number of districts recording at least one case have increased from 11 the day earlier to 14 on Wednesday, while the number of districts recording zero new infections decreased from 16 to 13.

“The State Health Department (JKNS) and the public need to take heed of these developments,” he stressed.

Masidi said 64 out of 65 cases were category one and two infections, while only one case was registered in category four. No deaths or new clusters were identified.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, 759 individuals took their vaccines on Jun 7, of which 482 were adults and 277 children.
