Ed Woodward has remained in the UK to seal two transfers for Manchester United.
The club's executive vice-chairman returned from Australia last week to finalise deals for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire and Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.
He had originally planned to link up with the Red Devils in Shanghai before Thursday's clash with Premier League rivals Spurs.
It is the first time Woodward has missed a preseason tour since 2013.
The London Evening Standard says Woodward has instead decided to stay in the UK to finally close those aforementioned negotiations.
United's latest bid for Maguire was 70m, with the Foxes still holding out for 90m.
Newcastle are demanding 50m for Longstaff however Woodward is confident of completing a deal for 30m
