Valencia coach Albert Celades defended his players after their Champions League humbling by Ajax.
The Dutch won 3-0 at the Mestalla last night.
Celades lamented: "It is a tough defeat, a heavy result. The team has not deserved it but it is the reality. We had a very good first half and we went down 0-2. We have not had the effectiveness they have had and that's what we've lacked.
"The second-half we have started well but we haven't been able to score, their goalkeeper has been very good. We tried until the end."
He added: "The first-half has been the best time since I am a coach here. But it is not that it is the way because the result has punished us."
