What if I told you that one day before Chinese New Year, we embarked on a six-hour culinary and conversational journey?
It began at 12:30 pm and ended only at 6:30 pm, with our hearts and bellies full of fun, food, and a bit of adventure.
The day started with a much-anticipated yee sang and lunch at the Bunga Raya Restaurant of the Royal Lake Club. Despite it being the eve of the festivities, the dining hall told a different story. The hall was crowded and oddly, most patrons appeared to be more at home celebrating Deepavali or Hari Raya than the Lunar New Year. It made us wonder where the CNY spirit was hiding.
Food took its sweet time to arrive, but we didn’t mind. It gave us ample opportunity to dive into discussions about everything from Trump’s latest antics to the enigmatic Deepseek—a conversation as colourful as the yee sang we tossed.
Imagine even the Chinese Deepseek AI was announced and topped the Apple Store charts on the eve of CNY2025.
What a surprise and how uncanny! The US Presiden, Donald Trump usually critical of Mainland China was taken by surprise and proceeded to warn American AI pioneers not to be too complacent.
When dessert called, we answered by heading to Dona, just a stone’s throw from the towering TRX Exchange. There, we indulged in sweets that marked the transition from meal to treat; burnt cheese cake and tarts with cappuccino, latte and Americano!
But we didn’t stop there. A short stroll later, we found ourselves at Venchi, savouring what could only be described as the best gelato to emerge from Italy.
Six hours and many calories later, we headed home, ready to usher in Chinese New Year 2025 with lighter hearts, heavier stomachs, and the memory of a day well spent with people whom we love. Gong Xi Fa Cai!
