KUALA LUMPUR – A record-breaking 75 entries are set to make waves at this year’s Malaysia Ski & Wake Championships – and Indonesia is leading the charge with a commanding 51 athletes, promising a thrilling regional showdown at Putrajaya Lake.
Organised by the Malaysian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (MWWF), the 2025 edition will see fierce competition across Waterski (Jump, Slalom, Trick, Overall), Wakeboard, and Wakesurf disciplines. Adding to the excitement, Open Events will award cash prizes (RM1,000 for 1st, RM500 for 2nd, RM200 for 3rd), making the stakes even higher.
Spearheading Indonesia’s medal hunt are SEA Games champions Zahidi Putu and Endhar Pupul. Malaysia, meanwhile, will pin its hopes on national sensation Aaliyah Yoong and her siblings Aiden and Adam – fresh off a six-gold haul at the Asian Championships in Bangkok.
“We’re excited to keep the momentum going and bring more golds home on our home turf,” said Aaliyah.
To nurture grassroots talent, the event also includes Junior and Novice categories in Waterski and Wakeboard – opening the waters to the next generation of champions.
Beyond the sport, a Family Carnival on Sunday (11am–6pm) promises fun for all ages with a petting zoo, pony rides, game stalls, walkabout clowns, magicians, and caricature artists. Visitors can also enjoy free waterski lessons and boat rides via lucky draws.
“We’re grateful to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Perbadanan Putrajaya for backing one of Malaysia’s flagship watersports events,” said MWWF President Phillipa Yoong.
