National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang proposes a formal engagement mechanism to address issues inclusively and preserve harmony.
KUALA LUMPUR: National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has proposed establishing a more structured engagement mechanism between authorities and religious bodies at the national level.
He stated that this crucial proposal would be raised and discussed with the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming.
“This approach is crucial to ensuring every issue can be addressed inclusively, minimising misunderstanding and assuring national harmony,” he said following a meeting with the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism.
The meeting covered various current issues, including matters pertaining to non-Islamic houses of worship.
Aaron noted that the council emphasised its full support for the country’s existing legal framework during the discussions.
“They, however, requested that enforcement be carried out in a more prudent, consultative and sensitive manner, particularly before any action is taken by the local authorities,” he added.
