Malaysia’s Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik crash out of the Indonesia Open in the second round, while Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin advance to the quarter-final

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia experienced mixed fortunes in men’s doubles at the Indonesia Open 2026 Badminton Championships when second seeds Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik suffered a shock second-round exit while Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani checked into the quarter-finals today.

World No 3 Aaron-Wooi Yik produced a limp display to go down 14-21, 14-21 to Indonesia’s rising pair of Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin of Indonesia at Istora Senayan.

This is the first time the top national men’s doubles pair have come up against the world No 12 Raymond-Nikolaus.

The Indonesians, who are unseeded in the Indonesia Open, will face Japanese world No 9 Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in the last eight.

Thankully for Malaysia, world No 8 Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin kept Malaysian hopes alive in men’s doubles with a 21-11, 21-13 win over England’s world No 11 Ben Lane-Sean Vendy.

It was the seventh-seeded Malaysian pair’s first win over the Englishmen after three defeats.

Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin will next be up against world No 30 combination of Hariharan Amsakarunan-M.R. Arjun after the Indians disposed of another Malaysian pair, Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai, 16-21, 21-15, 21-19 in their second-round clash.

Malaysia’s challenge in women’s singles, men’s singles and mixed doubles, however, came to an end in the second round.

K. Letshanaa lost 15-21, 18-21 to Japanese world No 3 Akane Yamaguchi in women’s singles; Leong Jun Hao capitulated 16-21, 15-21 to world No. 8 Frenchman Alex Lanier in men’s singles; and Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing went down 14-21, 22-24 to Thailand’s world No 3 pair of Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran in the mixed doubles.
