Abalos welcomes Pacquiao’s appointment as NAPC lead convenor

MANILA, Philippines — Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos welcomed the appointment of former senator Manny Pacquiao as the lead convenor of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC).

In a statement on Tuesday, Abalos said Pacquiao is “better suited” to take the position, citing his experience of rising from poverty to become a world-renowned boxer and public figure.

“I cannot think of anyone better suited to lead the NAPC than Manny Pacquiao. He rose from poverty to become the People’s Champ and an inspiration to millions of Filipinos,” said Abalos.

“Helping the poor is close to his heart, and I believe he will bring her compassion and determination to this new role,” he added in Filipino.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administered Pacquiao's oath of office at Malacañang.
