On Monday 1st June, a puppy was abandoned in the town of Bergerac, France.
Local police officers were called to help the little dog.
They had received a report about an abandoned dog that had been tied to a railing in the town centre for several hours.
Trembling with fear
When they arrived, the police officers found a young Pyrenean Mountain Dog puppy, around six months old. The poor pup was trembling with fear and appeared weak. An investigation was launched, which quickly led them to the puppy's owner.
The police had already visited the owner's home the previous week following suspicions of mistreatment, as stated by Bergerac Town Hall in a Facebook post. The man admitted to abandoning his dog and was subsequently taken to the police station.
An offence punishable by law
Bergerac's local council reminded the public that abandoning an animal is an offence punishable by law, and that all owners have a duty of care towards their pets. Thanks to the vigilance of the local residents who reported the dog, this little one now has the chance of a new, happier life.
Later that evening, the local council shared an update on the puppy. He is currently in the care of the rescue team at the SPA de Bergerac. It is still too early for him to be adopted, but the brave little dog is regaining his strength and being showered with affection by the rescuers. We wish him all the best for the future.
