Aboitiz starts building third Negros solar plant

ABOITIZ Power Corp. (AboitizPower) on Monday said that unit Aboitiz Renewables Inc. had started building the 239-megawatt-peak (MWp) Luna solar power plant in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, its third in the province.

The project includes a 65-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) and is expected to be fully operational by 2028.

"Our solar journey began here in Negros Occidental with SacaSun, our very first solar plant in San Carlos City,” Aboitiz Renewables President Jimmy Villaroman said during a ceremony event marking the start of construction.

“Returning to this island is a deliberate choice as Negros Occidental has proven itself an ideal hub for renewable energy, not only because of its natural potential but because of the proactive local policies that allow clean energy projects to move forward with confidence,” he added.

Once completed, Aboitiz Renewables said its total solar power capacity in Negros Occidental would increase to 471 MWp.

The company’s other solar projects in the province are the 173-MWp Calatrava solar power plant and the 59-MWp SacaSun facility.

AboitizPower shares on Monday went up by P0.20, or 0.47 percent, to close at P43.00 apiece.
